Because look at the situations:

1. John Lennon (Everyone flinch) was killed by an individual who wanted to
"Protect him from becoming ruined"....to keep him from becoming a phoney? If
you kill someone because you love them more than you believe in the worlds
ability to sustain them, well, thats Salinger in a nutshell. 

2. Reagan, while I'll admit the guy had strong Jodie Foster impressionating on
his mind (Thats a fun use of syntax, "impressionating") we should also look at
it this way....IT WAS RONALD REAGAN. 

3. Also, it could just be that Catcher In The Rye has sold millions of copies
worldwide...it would seem odder to me if it wasn't on their bookshelves.
