In a message dated 97-12-31 02:55:45 EST, you write:

what he MEANS...He can only give us examples.
   He's completely
elliptical, because he doesn't know how to say
exactly how he feels. He's got the support
  without the thesis. >>

Ahh, but these examples are EXACTLY what makes me grin like a madman everytime
I read Catcher. Those examples were NEVER even close to cliches, they were
straight from the heart. It was Holden's ability to speak from the heart that
made me love him. Why does one need articulation? I think of the average
"Its a Wise Child" contestant when I think of a young kid with articulation.
Which would you rather be around? Which would Salanger rather be around? I
think the answer is obvious. I don't think Seymour was particularly
articulate...not that he couldn't be, he just didn't want to be. He spoke
Grownup Holden Talk. :) I think we've talked about this before.

BTW, I don't really think you were taking the fact that Holden was
inarticulate as a negative. I just love to make it as positive as possible!
