Yeah, I see what you're saying, Scottie. I guess whenever you try to take a step beyond merely enjoying a novel you take a step away from the enjoyment of the novel. I think I said in an earlier post that doing a long paper on Joyce's Portrait ruined Joyce for me. So it is a real danger. But there are different kinds of pleasures to be derived from reading.
