You have been lucky.

I once had an English prof with strong feminist leanings who consistently
gave my papers (on sex roles and men, which, judging from Susan Falutie's
most recent two New Yorker articles, is now a valid feminist topic but
apparently was not in the late 1980's, when I took the class) low grades.
Although the grades were lower than what my writing had typically fetched in
other classes, I didn't suspect any bias until she claimed she never
received my final paper and failed me. Odd, because I turned my paper into
the same inbox that everyone else did.
