a memorable meeting

As list members may be aware, the Eastern Chapter
of Bananafish met yesterday in Davy Byrne's pub in Dublin.
Although fuller reports will no doubt appear in due course,
I thought I should write as soon as possible to curtail
    the wilder rumours.

First of all, I want to reassure everyone that both Helena
& Matt appear to be perfectly respectable people. I felt no
embarassment or unease appearing publicly in their company.
And as much the oldest member present I blame myself entirely
    for what happened.

Things were going delightfully - until I made the gross mistake
of mentioning other list members & their contributions. In extremely
short order indeed the level of hilarity had risen to such a height
that we were being asked to keep it down by the other patrons
    - &, of course, in no time at all one word had borrowed another
& after the first glass hit the mirrors there was really no way of
    defusing the thing.

Fortunately, I have good contacts within the Garda Siochana in
this city & the Royal City of Dublin Hospital regards me as
an alumus since serving my internships there fifty years ago.
I'm sure everything will be more or less a laughable memory
in no time at all. Matt should be no more than ten days or so
late getting back to Georgia & Helena is in excellent hands
at her mother's home. (My wife & I managed to escape with
    only minor cuts.)

Similar mistakes can be easily avoided & should not, in any way,
discourage bananafishers in the US from organising other gatherings.
