I just forgot to mention that the Narrows is not a river, but more of a
strait. The body of water between Brooklyn, and Staten Island.
Pedantic yes, but the place ought to be known right. It's beautiful.
Recently, Fort Wadsworth was became a part of Gateway National Recreation
Area, and so you can meditate there while looking out upon Manhattan, and the
Upper Bay, and be underneath the shadow of the Verrazano.
To enter Salinger, I got a wonderful kick out John Gadsudski, of The
Laughing Man, being from the Island. It's rarely mentioned, though being in
Manhattan it can't not be noticed; the other significant mention being the
doctor from Catch-22. Splendid book.
