I've been reading Joyce Maynard's book about her year with Salinger. Maybe you've all talked about this already on the list but I haven't seen it. I think it's real interesting reading what she has to say. His obsession with health food, how he loves the glass family more than his own, and how he has written everything about them, their favorite books, movies, they're like real characters in his eyes (according to the book). Don't know if it was right of her to write the book, but I sure enjoyed reading it. Anyway, here's what I was thinking about Zooey. Salinger seems to be a lot like the glass family, like how he judges people and stuff. Zooey was that way too, he either liked people at first sight or hated them, but he hated the fact that he was this way, called himself a freak, and wished he could be normal. could that be true of salinger too? I mean, he wrote Zooey after all. And one more thing about Joyce Maynard. After reading her book, and checking out her website, I really don't know if I like her or not. I kinda like her when she was young, but now... I don't know. I mean it's good for her that she isn't as insecure as when she was 18 and all, but, I don't know, now she kinda seems to me like the kind of person who would go on oprah to talk about her book, how she had to tell everything about her goddamn parents so she could be 'at home in the world', and Oprah would look at her with this really *understanding* look on her face and talk about how all women should read it or something, because it address the *important* issue of young women with low self-esteem and anorexia and all. It depresses the hell out of me when I think about it. It really does. Maybe I'm not making my point very well here, but she just seems to me now like the kind of person who would think the goddamn Lunts were 'angels'. I don't know. I just don't like her. I really don't. -Grant- "Teenage angst has paid off well Now I'm bored and old" (K.
