We can send money orders (which we pay up to a dollar for) Nah -- how about if each person who wants to be supportive goes out and buys one of his/her favorite books in hardcover (not paperback, which libraries generally do not like to accept because of the cost of maintenance), and donates it to a local library? I think a nice hardcover of Franny & Zooey or Nine Stories might do well; the big chain bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Borders) inexplicably stock at least one Salinger hardcover in the fiction section. F&Z is especially lovely because Salinger himself wrote the flap copy in lieu of a promised foreword. (I speak of the library thing because I spent quite a long time working in libraries, and I know how they feel about donations, and Salinger hardcovers are books that wear out because they are so enormously circulated.) I know you guys are only teasing, but genuinely, this group (though I fluctuate in how I interact) means a lot to me, and the small amount of labor is a labor of love for one of the most writers dearest to me. Sorry to interrupt, now carry on.... 8-) --tim
