I'm guessing that you are actually exaggerating, and that you probably get a sense of a person based on more than the author they mention first. For example, what would you assume about me knowing that I truly enjoy the majority of Salinger's work, I'm not nearly as fond of Catcher in the Rye as the other stories that I've read?
