For me the part that made him seem "dark" was the
whole nazi plate incident. Even if it was his Dad's,
it still spooked me a little that he'd show it to Jane
and it sort of spooked me about Jane too(more than the
part where she talks about killing her father), but I
think he was showing how he can see beauty in good and
evil(sort of like yin and yang?). And it was his
father's inability to see any good in things that are
"evil"(to him) like drugs, homosexuality, almost
anything non-militaristic that made him ugly. But as
someone said in a previous post, I sympathized with
nearly everone in the film:)
