First time I read Catcher I didn't like it. Like Liz said, whiny.
Since then I've read it four times trying to like it more. No go. I
still can't really figure out why everyone, including Wynona Ryder, likes
the book so damn much. I think I've always been a little let down that
there wasn't really something dangerous in the book, as advertised by the
High School School Board. I even have to cringe every time I say JDS is
my favorite writer. People think back to that aweful Caufield and no one
knows the Glasses.

A girlfriend in College gave me Franny, one of her favorites. I buzzed
through that and continued on to Zooey. That's where I found paradise,
perfection. I was in Penn Station at the time and while reading one of
the more spiritual passenges a man came up to me and gave me a pamphlet on
Jesus. It made a wonderful book mark.

After devouring all the rest of the books I found myself with only one
story left, "Intro to Seymour." I saved it for about two years - a
present to myself. One hot summer day I shaved my head, sat on the
stairway to my apt complex and read about Seymour. It was the warmest day
of my year.
