I have heard this type of thing before and it sounds right on first gloss,
but does great literature really depend on who you are talking to or what
you are looking for? Does the ardent admirer of "The Hang of It" have an
equal claim to this story being great literature as say admirers of Catcher,
Laughing Man, or For Esme? Is great literature just in the eye of the
beholder or isn't there an objective imperative that cries out for our
recognition?
