Yes, very much, but transposed onto Vietnam. Even the character of
the man upriver was the same: Kurtz.

The movie was brilliant. It had a few episodes that strained, but
Brando was incredible. The whole cast was great. You can see Larry
Fishburne when he was just a kid, and Martin Sheen doing a fabulous
job as the agent sent to get Kurtz, and (in what I think was his
first role) Harrison Ford early on, briefing his commanding officer
about the wheres and whats of Cambodia.

When I saw it, it was in a huge theater in NYC, and when the
helicopters swished across the screen, the sound moved from behind,
then left, then right, then behind again.

Definitely worth catching, even in its slow moments.
