Will, I'm curious, and this is not meant to sound snippy in the least
bit. In the past you said Warren French had "damned" you for
participating in this list. Why do you think that is? Is it that he
thinks readers not blessed by academia are not in a place to discuss
Salinger's work? Is it that he just thinks YOU should be focused
elsewhere? Has he ever seen (via you) any of some of the more
insightful posts, or gotten the sense of community here? What's his
objection?

I'm not asking this in a confrontational or defensive way. I'm
genuinely curious. The last time I spoke with or wrote to him was
quite a number of years ago, and it was way before regular people
like us used the Internet, and we talked about Salinger -- me, with
my measly B.A. -- but he was very generous in talking to me and to my
close friend, also a B.A., but working on his Master's.

I hope that you are able to get some work done beyond this list,
Will; I'm certainly looking forward to what emerges, as one of
Salinger's Readers....
