Sonny --

You parsed my sentence quite well, thank you :) It's very nice to see someone leap straight to understanding even around my poor writing...

I was reading your post somewhat in the light of our recent arguments on the list, and it's very common for atheists to depict religious faith as the uncritical acceptance of specific belief. There is some justification for this depiction within Christianity, of course, but it is very one sided.

Ehm...faith and reason in Prostantism and Catholicism -- that's a bigger subject. I would say that Protestantism (argh, depends on what Protestants you're talking about...) makes the same use of reason that Catholics do. But again...what Protestants are we talking about? Christian Rationalism is VERY big at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, and some of the most influential reformed theologians teach there. I would say Luther would balk at the idea of reason helping a human being attain to any real knowledge of God, but nonetheless used rational appeals in all his arguments with Erasmus, for example.
