Zooey did mention Les's tangerine in a conversation (face to face) with
Franny -- and how much even Bessie hated stories with tangerines in them
(which may point to Seymour), but what I was thinking of was this...
"How in Hell are you going to recognize a legitimate holy man when you see
one if you don't even know a cup of consecrated chicken soup when it's right
in front of your nose?"

But I still think the meaning of the image is what I've described -- esp.
since Zooey pointed out that Franny took the time to make it back home before
she fell apart...
