i dont know what it is, but in the past 24 hours, i have seen 3 references to
JD and/or catcher in the rye....
1) last nite, i was watching "once and again" on abc....the daughter of
one of the characters, now realizing aspect of the adult world, was
reading catcher...and it was quite prominent in the shot..
2) i picked up a copy of teen people today (i usually dont, i just saw a
small headline about bush, a band over whom i obsessed for 4 years, and even
have a lightswitch cover...ay mi) but anywhoo...in the article on bush, they
quote gavin rossdale, leadsinger/guitarist as saying, "The youth seem to be
represented by the teenage bands and especially by the middle-aged
songwriters who just serve ice cream for songs. It's a shame because I meet
lots of kids who remind me of Holden Caulfield [the teenage outsider from J.
D. Salinger's classic novel, The Catcher in the Rye], and I wish they were in
the bands. I think being so honest and vulnerable is a healthy
alternative--to accept that you make mistakes and take wrong turns and that
you have the desire to change, but that sometimes it takes a rocky road to
get to the green pastures."
3) at this time, who wants to be a millionare was on across the hall,
and what is asked, but to put in order from earliest birth, 4 authors, one
being our jerome david himself. (he of course was the first born on the list)
ok..thats my salinger story for today..but it makes me wonder...the gavin
rossdale quote in teen people had to have the addition of who holden is...i
know that my school doesnt read catcher anymore...and im wondering if its
falling out of the high school list....my honors american lit teacher last
year refused to teach it because parents complained the year before, so its
banned....so im wondering how many people today get exposed to it..any of you
other high school students on the list, is it a part of the curriculum?? just
wondering....but yep..thats all...so ciao!

oh..and becky..btw...most of the women on this list have admitted some type
of attraction to holden...so youre not odd...=)
