I love your `Zen Thwack' - it's a very tangible way of describing the phenomena of satori. I think one of the main aims of Salinger' fiction is to bring on a state approaching that sort of awareness, but without really knowing why. Overanalysis can by its very nature never lead to satori, which is possibly why Salinger mistrusts it. However, who hasn't come away from some elements of a Salinger story at some point without a big rosy smile on their faces without the slightest clue why?
