I think Scottie will be best qualified to respond to this, but I have
a few thoughts to share. I will let Scottie discuss the clinical
differentiation between neurosis and psychosis. But to say that the
difference does not matter b/c they both indicate that something is
wrong is absurd. My elbow hurting after falling backwards on it was
an indication that something was wrong. My elbow was broken and need
weeks in a cast to heal. My elbow hurting after carrying a suitcase
or upon waking is an indication that something is wrong. I now have
arthritis and take VIOXX, which deals very successfully with aches.
In both cases, there is an indication of something wrong, but they
were caused, and treated, by very different things. Just because
they were both pain in my elbow does not make them interchangeable.
Neurosis and Psychosis and both difficulties involving some
combination of the brain and the emotions. They are not
interchangeable.

If anyone else on this list had used the word psychosis to discuss a
state of mind, it might have been less specific. But coming from
Scottie, you can bet he said it on purpose.

I am very interested in some elaboration from Scottie on his statement.
