I want to announce some new stuff happening at Salinger.Org!

First, the navigation bar has been redesigned and the search function is
back, and better than ever. Check it out at http://www.salinger.org

Next, I'm trying to improve on my pathetic update frequency for the
site. One thing I've decided is to try to get help with certain site
functions and spread out the load. So I'm asking for volunteers, as
noted below.

Another thing I'm thinking of is a sort of "mailing list liason". This
person would basically watch this mailing list for interesting stuff and
try to get it onto the web site. I notice so many good ideas coming up
here (from philosophy to theories on Salinger's stories) and I'd love to
see them presented in a more permanent form on Salinger.Org for all to
see.

Finally, I wonder if anyone is interested in being a "Salinger Oracle".
I'm envisioning a one-way mailing alias/list (like maybe
oracle@salinger.org) that students and others could send to when they
have a question. This would probably be mostly Salinger homework help,
but might include all sorts of bizarre questions. Anyone interested?
Or is this a dumb idea?

Now about the site volunteers, there are four positions available:

1) SUBMISSIONS PANEL (aka reviewers list): Anyone and everyone can be a
member. You must be willing to occasionally review submissions, figure
out where they should go on the site, and write nice notes to our
members-to-be welcoming them or explaining why their submission was
rejected. This is an email-only position.

2) WEBMASTER: One person who takes accepted submissions and random
feedback and tries to incorporate it into the site. This includes HTML
editing, FTP, design, etc. This person is also responsible for working
with yours truly on general site improvements.

3) POSTMASTER: One person who handles email aliases and updating the
members' directory (members/supporters.html) and all the spam sent to
postmaster@salinger.org.

4) FEEDBACK EDITOR: One person to handle random site suggestions in a
timely fashion and write back to the suggester nicely. When someone
clicks on a feedback link and says "there's a new article" or "where can
I get Salinger's address" it's your job to respond and deal with the
matter. Site suggestions are forwarded to the webmaster, other things
are up to you! This is an email-only position.

If you're interested in (and serious about) getting involved in these
things, please drop a line to editor@salinger.org. I've been trying to
do all these things for the last 8 years, and can assure you that there
are many rewards to go along with the trouble!
