When Nixon made his famous statement about not having him to kick
around anymore, he had just lost a bid to be governor of California.
I think that was in l962 but I'm not certain. Nevertheless, history
showed that we did indeed have much more of Nixon to kick around!
And I would request that Scottie stick around but not for kicking but
because we get kicks from his posts. If I've been too critical or
argumentative, I apologize. I guess I thought Scottie and I could
tweak each other without the kicking hurting but it seems to have
shaken up the spirit of this list. I take his attacks on me as
worthwhile since I am indeed a "section man" and don't stop being
academic when it comes to JDS. Furthermore, I don't think I'm always
"right" or intelligent. Scottie's ideas also are not always "right"
and I welcome the opportunity to encounter them on this list. I can
easily say that I've learned from Scottie--that his intelligence and
wit are too important to this school of bananafish to let him swim
away. will

PS I try to hate no one but I do consider Richard Nixon one of the
most despicable folks of my time. I do not feel that way about
Scottie and wish that another allusion had been used.
