I'm glad we all misunderstood you. Perhaps, well, use your good
judgment about the witty replies, and remember all the knees that
quake and tremble out here. I guess the rule of thumb I use is that I
try never to seem -- much less BE -- abusive. If you had that in mind
in answering messages, then perhaps it wouldn't scare people off as
readily. But I don't expect to see you become a "kinder, gentler"
version of yourself. There would be something ... waxen about THAT!

But please don't let it seem as if I'm lecturing or giving lessons
in curtseying! If there's anything to be learned from all this,
Scottie, it's that people want you to be yourself -- lumps and all, I
guess.

Good news all around.
