Lucy, I think Warren French really read this story well and believe
his reading of it centered his reading of Salinger in general. He's
worth a visit to the library. If you need the original article he
wrote using the story to see Salinger, it was in Wisconsin Studies in
Contemporary Literature, Vol 4 No 1 Winter l963, pages 21-30. If you
can't locate any of French's work let me know off list. Anyhow,
French has good words on the story well worth reading.

One thing about UWIC that gets me is that it shows what happens when
adults fail to share their child's imaginary worlds...it happens all
over Nine Stories.
