Wait, wait. Are you telling me that Matt K. is using you, Jim Rovira, as
his mouthpiece? Dear God, what's next? A plague of locusts? Raining

Come out and play, Evil Matt K. Dissertation, schmissertation.

One could argue that the use of "quotes" is perfectly acceptable if one
felt amenable to playing the common usage card. In fact, I found the
following entry in my handy Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary:

Main Entry: quote (2)
Function: noun
Date: 1888
1 : QUOTATION
2 : QUOTATION MARK -- often used orally to indicate the beginning of a
direct quotation

Quotation, of course, is defined as "... a passage referred to, repeated,
or adduced."

But you knew that already.

Respectfully,

Cecilia.
