I actually - and this is true - had a dream last week that I got an e-mail from Tim telling me I just had to stop posting those off-topic posts. I remember in the dream I felt really bad, because I knew how far things have to go before Tim protests.
Funny, two years ago, when I really posted quite a lot in the pond, I never felt like that. But now, when I only post occasionally, I guess I feel worse when I don’t have that much to say about ol’ Jerome David. I could talk, rambling, endlessly, about how remarkably handsome Paul Newman has been for the last 40 years and so (watched a 1973 movie starring the hero himself this weekend, he’s got grey hairs even back then – and still…), about the latest Tjechov play Lars Norén directed – I can even say a thing or two about Koltes: but not, I’m afraid anything about his ‘Sallinger’ (my French hardly let me order a glass of Pernod). But Salinger-related: Nada. No, old JD has put the silent spell on me. So here I am, reading the posts and wondering when I’ll have something remotely correlated to say. Seeking comfort in the fact that how ever little I do say about the actual stories of Salinger, there is something in the fresh pond water that makes me feel at home.
