Yes, this summer's novel was 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and the program was
extraordinarily successful. It seemed as if everyone in the city was
reading or rereading it. In fact, they chose that particular novel
because racial tensions in Chicago are particularly high right now. I'm
not certain why they believe these tensions are higher now than they were,
say, fifteen years ago, but who am I to argue with a passel of librarians?

Who needs to understand a lesser city when your own is so fan-damn-tastic?
