Pat, it is a great relief you are not a literary scholar, and I look foward
to reading your postings. If you take a minute, or if you have the time, an
hour to peruse the archives you will no doubt see a multitude of postings
from the literary scholars of today, also known as yesterday's section men.
It is my view "they" are well-educated, credentialed people, the
self-described "posturing elite" whom Salinger once aptly labeled "mens room
attendants". Don't pay too much attention to what I have to say on this
list, though, especially when it veers towards social commentary.
I seem to have gained a reputation, not undeservedly, of knavery.

So, Pat,what particular story, in Nine Stories struck out at you?

Cordially,
