Hello,
it's Elizabeth and, as i have no way of doing that whole copy thing (i'm a
computer nincompoop), i shall be responding to the posts as best i can:

i'm in with Steve; i tried to find somebuddhist symbolism, but, alas, i'm not
buddhist. i checked my notes and cheesy stuff, from class and all, but it
doesn't seem to me that seymour was so enlightened. i would put holden as
being more enlightened, as he could see throught everything, but he just
didn't know what to do wif seymour were tr>.
if seymour were heading down the sacred path to enlightenment,
he wouldn't have killed himself, because that would merely
condemn him to yet another painful and meaningless life as an
earthly being. i think.
at least holden didn't kill himself.

hi there, Brian!
i'm a new subscriber, too, so welcome!
i, too, think that teddy is probably the epitomal short story of JDS's,
no matter what anyone says about it being simplistic or predictable.
i think it's grand. (and i'm not a phony for saying that)
on the subject of JDS's short stories which weren't published in
nine stories, i'm in the process of finding all of them (or at least as
many as possible in my archaic libraries), and i'm going to attempt to
type them all up in pristine form and distribute them to all worthy
individuals.
obviously everyone on this list is included.
i have a listing of 21 short stories (incl. hapworth) which i am trying
to locate; i only have 2 right now, but that's okay, because i only
started yesterday and i'm a slow typist.
i must explicate this in NOT a moneymaking scheme or anything stupid
and wrong like that, it's just that i know many people (including
myself) for whom a small collection of more JDS stuff would be
a blessing.
oh--i'm not going to be doing hapworth, for abvious reasons, and besides
its length and upcoming publication, some arsehole at my library
ripped the story out of the new yorker and there's no microfilm!
so anyway, the point is, i'll keep you guys posted on the hunt,
and if anyone has anything to contribute, please write me.
i guess if anyone wants a copy, i'll just need however much money it
is to copy all the pages.
i repeat: this is NOT a moneymaking scheme. it's for all of us.
i'm just a miserly college student, as i'm sure many of you can
empathize.
and i also think this will be a fun list!
Elizabeth
