Leonard Cohen addressed this very issue in his song "Joan of Arc":...
She said "I'm tired of the war
I want the kind of work I had before
A wedding dress or something white
to wear upon this swollen appetite"
...

He goes on to muse about the sensual relationship she had with the flaming wood.
Really powerful song. Jennifer Warnes' cover version (actually a duet with Lenny
himself) is far superior to the original though.
