Here here, Mr. Blah. The mistake of casting Melanie Griffith notwithstanding, I enjoyed the film adaptation as well. I felt the picture did a particularly good job of high-lighting the sincerity of H-squared's love and the pay-for-sex depravity of its later affections. The visual book-ends - dirty-faced Humbert careering his woody down lush valley road with "Love of my life, fire of my loins" styled voice overs - were beautiful. In toto, very true to the book. Add movie kudos: As anyone seen The Thin Red Line? I caught it last night and was, well, very taken. I have some dime-store analysis, but I thought it would open it up to the floor first.
