Yes, you could almost say the same for Seymour and Sybil, too. Maybe the
character of Mr Antolini was intended to be emblematic of the incorrect
interpretation by Holden of this `silent linkage' - maybe it is implied
that not listening to Mr Antolini's `inner child' is what really makes
Holden phony.
