Well, Jim--what can I say except that you should have waited
and saved yourself for _Catcher_? How does the saying go?
"The expense of spirit in a waste of shame / is Lust in

But seriously. Jim's post makes the second appeal in as many
days to Salinger as the topic of discussion on this list. I'd
like to remind you all of the matter as it is addressed in the
List Charter, between the entries on DEFENESTRATION and
DIPSOMANIA:
DIGRESSIONS:
-All digressions from explicitly Salinger-related topics
should be indulged insofar as they promote a sense of list
community and character, provided that they strictly avoid
mention of pamphlets and propaganda written by Ayn Rand (q.v.
DEFENESTRATION). Those voicing objection to digressions will
be roundly scolded by a member of the Watch Subcommittee and
challenged to provide discussion material of the sort supposed
elsewhere in this charter to be endemic to the list.
