Boy is this going to sound painfully repetitive after everything I've said,
but it's because a narrative of sorts communicates an experience. It
involves the whole person, it makes the subject Real. On the other hand,
purely rational discussion isn't quite so engaging. BTW, I've read Greene a
little bit, and am not disappointed :)

That's one of the critiques of modernism, by the way. It leaves us empty.
