I read A Separate Peace my Sophomore year of high school, and enjoyed it
immensely. I too, like Paul, was intrigued by John Knowles, and read Peace
Breaks Out (the sequel) for an extra credit report. It was a good read, I
thought back then, but it was nothing compared to A Separate Peace. My
teacher at the time, viewed the first novel much like Jim, really feeling no
sympathy for the narrator. The sequel she feared and refused to read, not
wanting to take away from what good she did find in the first novel. I've
been tempted to read this book again, but have not found the time yet. Also,
I hear negative responses to Knowles everywhere (even on the Simpsons), and
I've never been sure why so many people are turned off by Knowles. Oh well,
those are my thoughts.

As ever,
Zack
