Hey Ed!

Don't get so sensitive about the U-boat.... (I can almost hear a Monty
Python song coming on.... "About the U'boat....") I remember once walking
all over the middle of Chicago, when the temperature was minus 20--something
like zero degrees Fahrenheit, for you Americans and Liberians out
there--with a windchill that could freeze the soul of Saul Bellow (who fled
his birthplace in Montreal to go to Chicago, if you can believe it!) a few
years back. I was looking for the old Haymarket Square (scene of the
infamous riot that resulted in the Red May Day (still celebrated almost
everywhere in the world--except the USA and Liberia!), only to find that it
had been blown off the face of the map by the JFK Expressway.... There's
progress for you!

Anyway, Ed, if you start walking now, I'd be happy to meet you on January
26th or 27th beside the famous U-boat! (It's exactly the type of expotition
that I enjoy!)

And Cecilia!

WOW! You never told me you had banana-coloured hair! All of the proposed
meeting places sound quite swell (two words which--like Wabash &
Harrison--should never meet).... I'll try to pin a time down by sometime
early next week, which might help to trim down the list. (It is, however,
in the interest of international bananafish consistency, utterly imperative
that there be a Starbuck's across the street!)

There's GOTTA be somebody else from Chicago! Maybe we could convince Rick &
Mirjam to make the drive in from St. Louis?!?!?!

Cheers,

Paul

OSR--Someone please tell me I'm crazy. On one of those endless lists of
people who love Catcher, I'm sure I've seen the name, if you'll pardon the
expression, Bill Gates. (Strangely enough, I think I might rather have Mark
Chapman in my fan club any day....) In fact, I think I've seen it on three
or four of those lists, which means nothing, of course, except that the
world has an almost infinite need to believe that this is a book that
appeals to EVERYbody!
