This NY meeting thing makes me confused

Just the fact there is a physical version of any of us is hard to realize
for someone with my terrible imagination. I didn't really trust this meeting
thing; I was prepared you all would come back, with one voice stating "they
weren't there". And then finally realizing we were all living in different,
although similar, dimensions. That made more sense to me than Mattis being
Woody in disguise, and Elizabeth turning out to be our Franny.

Now I don't know whether to be sad or glad. You see, coming to New York is
*my* adventure, in *my* dimension X! You see, I've made a "working decision"
to come to New York this autumn, a decision not old enough for me and my
better half to start fighting over it yet. My snow-haired lover has been
accepted as visiting scholar at Colombia University. I've wanted to live in
New York ever since The Taxi Driver and the Glass family moved in, and it
looks like now is the right time.

But I never realized people I *know* (well, sorta) would be walking the same
streets. There I would be, bag on my head, and someone would come up to me
from absolute nowhere, asking: "You're the Laughing Man, aren't you?" "Nooo,
I would say", being a true apostle, "I'm not him. Who's he? I'm just a
Swedish guy trying not let it show this f-king city has the population of my
entire country."

Still, there I would be. Saved only by my true conviction to react to any
personal question with a fast lie (and the bag on my head blurring out my
strong accent).

Saved only for the moment, however. I would stare at the person next to me,
the inside of my head like the humming computer in war Games, names flashing
by: Ed Camille Jason Mattis Elizabeth Cecilia Jim Scottie (no, this can't be
our Star Trek Engineer in his red fitted suit) Tim Sonny Lauren Wes Gene
Tory Paul Dan Bruce Lucy-Ruth Jes Matt Babe Mr Vicious Joshie Meredith
Steven Steve Sean Bernd Mark Abra The Catcher's little sister Andrew Jocelyn
John Lovely Rita Mr Depressed Diego Bethany Robbie the young atheist...

...and then, less than half way through, I'd faint, my copy of F&Z would
fall out of my one pocket and my Proust out of the other - and I'd be
revealed!

So I don't know, Ed, if this NY meeting thing is really such a good idea.
