Matt, yes, offering interesting texts is important, but the purpose of a
teacher's selection might go beyond "covering" an author or finding what
students most easily respond to--I was trying to get you to weave some
interesting pedagogy into your choice. For example, I know you like to
leave the ending off of APDFB and talk about how stories end and that's
important for students to consider when learning about literature...

Esme has an interesting "split" character and I guess I read it as a
strong anti-war story, though what I like best is the deep, silent
connecting...there's a lot to do with the story to expose aspects of
lit. Anyway, good luck with the class, will
