Paul, I think poetry is all about the white space on the page...and
we both know there's plenty of poetry in Salinger's fiction! In fact
I used this very idea in a little piece called "The Ongoing Poetry of
Andre Dubus" who wrote no poems...his stories just seem to work off
the page...that is, I would read a story and the white space was
where it really got going...I loved the way your same idea just
rolled onto my screen today, thanks, will
