I've noticed the trend toward trade paperbacks increasing over the last
few years and frankly, I like it. As a self-confessed bibliophile, I
think I'd go broke if I had to buy hardcovers all the time, but I detest
pocket paperbacks. (It's an aesthetic thing. See the last year's
discussion on Catcher colors [by the way, I cannot accept brick red, PK,
burgundy still feels like the best compromise] if you have any doubt.)

I'm not surprised that more publishers are going toward the trade
paperbacks, since it seems to me like there's very little extra cost to it
and the selling prices is so much higher as a result. These paperbacks
appear to retail for $12-18 USD, a price which I gladly pay to have a book
that I'm not ashamed to keep on my shelf. Don't get me wrong; I prefer
hardcover, but this is a good compromise.

Penguin has been republishing their classics series in an especially
attractive format, with the uneven pages and a cover which, though still a
paperback, has flaps.

All of which has absolutely nothing to do with Salinger. However, I too
am pleased to see the trade paperbacks available. Perhaps I'll stop by
the bookstore this weekend and check it out. Thanks for the heads-up,
Paul M.

Regards,
Cecilia.
