Jim,

I seem to vaguely remeber this question being asked (and answered)
before. I think the film in question was Middle Eastern, and 'Pari'
actually literally translates as 'Fairy'. I can't really remember much
more, though...

...I just checked the archives and found this post:

 Hey

I was checking out the internet movie database
(www.imdb.com) I tried searching for salinger and I found 2!! movies.
One is the old uncle wiggly movie but the other one was from Iran!!

it's called Pari and in the credit list it says:

Writing credits:
Dariush Mehrjui
J.D. Salinger (novel Franny and Zooey)

This dariush guy is also the director.
There isn't any real information about the film though. Is it exactly
after the novel or does it just borrow some bits from it?
Did salinger allow this?
If you don't believe me go check it out yourself.
Go to www.imdb.com and search for the name salinger.

Really strange...

This post was from April 1999. It wasn't linked by thread so I'm not
sure if there was any more discussion of this (although then where did
I get the Franny - Fairy connection? I worry about myself sometimes, I
really do). Maybe Grant is still subscribing and he can tell us more.

Love, Lucy-Ruth

PS Happy New Year, everyone. I have just returned from my Christmas
vac. and gratefully sink from the excessive luxury of Christmas into
the scholarly calm of the Bananafish pool ;-)
