I think Jim's post has cleared this whole thing up.  Even if I was not
COMPLETELY sure that pool was empty and that Teddy ended up at the
bottom of it by his own will (?), I am now.  Thank you Jim, I'll be
digging my book out tonight.

It kinda seems Salingeresque to me that it is a possibility that the
pool had
