Hello everyone, i guess my introduction has been long overdue as i have been a "lurker" on this list for more than a few months now. I was introduced to Salinger in high school......we had to read catcher in the rye.....i have to admit i despised that book at that time, partly because we had to read it for class and partly because i really didn't like holden for some reason. I plan to reread it soon without any biases though so i can get a fresh perspective on it. A few years after reading catcher i was reintroduced to salinger by my girlfriend who told me to read nine stories, and in particular, a perfect day for bananafish (which her favourite band The Cure wrote a song about btw). I read nine stories and ended up loving it and try to keep a copy close by me at all times. i Just finished reading Franny and Zooey and am almost finished with Seymour:An Introduction. It is Interesting how Salinger is writing through buddy, sometimes i don't know where Salinger begins and Buddy ends..... Hmm.....i guess that is all i really have to say for now, i have much more i want to say about salinger and his works, but i want to sort it all out before i go on rambling for hours. oh, and i belive someone wanted to know where in S:AI it alluded to Buddy writing the story Teddy in Nine Stories.....I don't know if anyone answered this already, but in the white cover paperback edition page 176 Buddy does say he wrote a story about "a "gifted" little boy aboard a transatlantic liner". Buddy goes on to quote a few lines from the story, and if i remember correctly, those same lines are in Teddy. Thats all for now, i hope to contribute more to this list in the future!! -Scott http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/2803 "Will you sell me one of those if i shave my head" -Tom Waits "get me out of town is what fireball said" "never trust a man in a blue trench coat" "never drive a car when you're dead"
