We would give a poll of books and choose through votes as > a group. This is a great idea, but poses a bit of a technical and logistical problem in the sense that it would increase the traffic here (which can get pretty heavy at times; not a problem at this end, but a problem for people whose mailboxes can't handle the load) and would make the archives of the list a little trickier (to split or not to split). However (and there is always a however), I'd be more than happy to put up another list for the discussion of book-of-the-moment, and have it run in parallel. Someone could even post an occasional digest here, if people on this list seem interested. Anyone on this list can join the other; anyone NOT interested in Salinger could join and not be involved in Salingeriana. How about if after the kind of lengthy discussion we engage in 8-), people send me mail pro or con, and if there are enough people interested, I'll be happy to make a second list and run it in parallel with this one. I'm hesitant to add this load to the current list for one other reason: people already send me private mail to say that the list has too much traffic for them and so they must quit it for that reason. I don't mind seeing this list grow based on its subject; but I don't want to scare off anyone who is on the fence about whether to stay or go. Please, anyone, speak up in public or to this address in private, and have a say about it. It would be a delight to have another list in tandem, for those who want to participate. --tim (who has about 349 other lists chained to his neck)
