Hi, all. Just a couple of housekeeping notes in between the normally scheduled civil interaction here.... MYSTERIOUS ERROR MESSAGES ============================ A few people have reported that when they recently sent a message to the list, they got back a mysterious error and were not sure whether their message had been successfully delivered. In the event of errors affecting the list's delivery, the list software attaches a snippet that tells the mail system at the other end to send those errors to me and my sidekick, Tim O'Connor at NYU. Unfortunately, there is a system in the U.K. that does not appear to honor the "Errors-to:" information, and instead sends it back to the author of the mail. So, if you have sent mail recently and received an error that showed this in at least part of the header: Administrator@csunt2.napier.ac.uk ... then you are seeing this problem. I've temporarily removed the subscriber from the list, so this should cease. But please keep in mind that the list still delivered your mail despite the one bounce to the system in the U.K. A BOOK CLUB =========== There's been a lot of positive reaction to the notion of creating a second list for members to read a specific book and then have a period of discussion time focused on that book. It seems as if there are more than enough people interested, so I think we can proceed. From the bureaucratic end here, I can get it done most efficiently if I tied it to this list (e.g., BananaBooks) rather than make it seem like an official NYU list. If you have any thoughts on this, please send them to me (not to the list!). CONCLUSION: BLAH BLAH BLAH =========================== Thanks to everyone for participating in, and calming down, the recent turbulence we have experienced. I don't think anyone quit the list because of it, and hope the people who remain are mindful of how unintended or wry remarks can cause a strong reaction. As usual, best to all, with hopes for an eventual publication of Hapworth, peace on the list and on the ground, and good health to our 79-year-old patron saint and collector of small details, JDS. --tim o'connor
