But I am not sure that simply eloping solves the problem of being >too happy, one can be too happy to elope, presumably. Do we have to >conclude that Seymour merely went into "remission" and that ultimately, >as underscored by Seymour's suicide, there is no cure for banana >fever? Am I the only one who finds this suggestion disturbing? Another simple thought, I'm afraid, but perhaps Seymour just went on to marry Muriel because he sort of felt sorry for her. If I'm remembering the story correctly, Muriel was devestated, crying and all that, and then she spoke to Seymour on the phone. Perhaps when, on the phone, Seymour heard how upset she was, he thought, "She is simply marvelous, to be so upset over something like a wedding...And why shouldn't I go ahead and marry her? It'll make her happy..." or something like that. I can't believe I've got the audacity to try and speak from the interior of Seymour's blessed noggin, but it seems at least a little plausible to me. What do you think? Brendan ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
