Hello to all litstmembers out there, I susbscribed to this list yesterday (after longing for something like = it for a long time), so it=B4s time to introduce myself: my name is Kirsten. I live in Hamburg / Germany (and I am German). I am = 29 years old and am just busy with reading JDS intensively for the third = time. First I got a salinger-addict at school, the second time I read = his works while I was a student (and just became some kind of a = player-hater which I hope I have overcome). Now I=B4ve started = re-reading Salinger out of an impulse that has something to do with the = fact that in =B497 I gave birth to a little daughter. She ist now 11 = months old and what Salinger writes preluding F & Z about his one = year-old son, urging people to accept a cold bean, convinced me = immediately that this was exactly what I was looking for. What I like especially about Salinger=B4s works is that he created the = universe of a widespread family, of different figures that are connected = which each other around the hook of different texts. The effect is to me = that these figures seem so real. This is a point I maybe would like to = discuss. My =B4favourite=B4 German author is Uwe Johnson who used = exactly the same technique of focussing different figures out of a = complete and related universe of relatives and friends (the = =B4Cresspahls=B4 in the center of it). And where does Gesine Cresspahl, = heroine of the novel =B4Jahrestage=B4 live? N.Y.C., Riverside Drive... = But unfortunately she moved there too late - in 1966 - to get the chance = to contact the Glasses.=20 Kirsten
