Catcher in its time

Remember that old question about the Billy Joel song and how The Catcher in the
Rye fit in among the other landmark events of 1951?

Scottie's last post mentioned, in quite another context, Oppenheimer and the
bomb, which reminded me of "the Oppenheimer Memorial Wing of the new dorms" at
the beginning of Catcher, which is where Holden lived at Pencey. Oppenheimer (a
fictional alum) was the one who came and spoke in church, was very phony, and
Holden remembered that one of the kids farted during his speech. I'm just
wondering if that could be a subtle reference to the other Oppenheimer, and if
perhaps anyone can think of any other such references...
