Those are very legitimate concerns, yes.  In a very real sense you ARE reading
a completely different work.  You would certainly lose out on the cadences and
feel of the original, and some of the subtleties.  

But you're really going to be missing out if you don't read One Hundred Years
for this reason.  I'd read it in English, learn Spanish, then read it again :)
