I also read the Telegraph article when it appeared last week - to mark, I assumed, the 80th birthday. They used a big, blown up version of the famously troubled shot of the old man's shying away from the papperazzo. Which didn't seem awfully kind. I'm glad, though, that we Brits paid our homage. (There were briefer references in some of the other posh papers.) Were his own countrymen similarly appreciative ? Or has Joyce pre-empted the Salinger slots for the moment ? Scottie B.
