   My name is Bruce. This morning I subscribed to the list. I recently
bought my first computer. Stumbled across Bananafish. By way of
introduction:
I read Catcher in summer of 68; fell head over heels in love with the Glass
Family in summer of 70; took a Salinger seminar at Cal State Fullerton in
71 from Dr. Som Ranchan; had a dream of the Glass Family; became interested
in Rilke and poetry; moved to San Francisco in 72 to attend grad school in
writing; JDS was one of 3 authors for my orals (others: Keats and Pound);
worked in bookstores, museums, auction house; developed writer's block in
79; from 82 to 98 worked as a legal proofreader; department eliminated in
summer 98; mid-life crisis underway; started to write again in Oct 98; read
JDS for the first time since 74 this past month (Raise High and S: an
Intro); started to reread Hapworth in The New Yorker (lucky to find a copy
years ago) on January 1st, 1999, JDS's 80th birthday. Did anyone mail a
blank card to Cornish?
